Departures’ Auspicious Arrival: Congratulations, Khatharya!

I’m very pleased to announce the publication of Departures: An Introduction to Critical Refugee Studies (UC Press, 2022), a book co-authored by our very own Professor Khatharya Um.
Departures’ arrival could not be more timely. Departures supports, contextualizes, and advances the field of critical refugee studies by providing a capacious account of its genealogy, methods, and key concepts as well as its premises, priorities, and possibilities. Departures is authored by The Critical Refugee Studies Collective–a group of interdisciplinary scholars who advocate for and envision a world where refugee rights are human rights. Prof. Um is a founding member of the Collective and has done transformative work in not only building the field of critical refugee studies, but of widening and deepening its impact in refugee communities in California and beyond.
