Chancellor’s Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence and Equity Goes to: Ethnic Studies Department, Professor Khatharya Um

The Department of Ethnic Studies is proud to announce that Professor Khatharya Um has been awarded the 2020 Chancellor’s Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence and Equity. This prestigious university-wide award is presented annually to a distinguished faculty member at the University of California, Berkeley based on outstanding contributions in advancing the University’s mission to create an inclusive environment, serving the needs of our increasingly diverse state, and addressing inequalities in society and the pathways to resolving them.
Professor Um’s contributions to Southeast Asian American Studies and Critical Refugee Studies through her research, teaching, mentorship, and service have been truly unique and have made local, national and global impact by advancing international research into the conditions affecting refugees world-wide while simultaneously contributing to making our campus a much more welcoming space for this under-served community.
