A new campus mural in the new Undergraduate Academic Building celebrates 150 years of women at Berkeley, featuring the images of 41 women who've made signal contributions to the university. Among the luminaries appearing in this beautiful new painting are nine women whose impacts continue to be felt in Ethnic Studies today -- including Professor Catherine Ceniza Choy!
Alongside Professor Choy are former Ethnic Studies faculty Norma Alarcón, Evelyn Nakano Glenn, Margarita Melville, and Elaine Kim; former director of the American Indian Graduate Program, Carmen Foghorn; African American Studies faculty whose signal campus contributions touched Ethnic Studies in material ways -- June Jordan and Barbara Christian; and LaNada War Jack, a critical figure in the TWLF strikes of 1969.
A new website is devoted to the mural and includes biographies of all the figures it represents! Check it out!
